Dream City Dance was honored to be able to perform at this year’s 7th Annual Vermont Dance Showcase to benefit Puppets in Education. This is an event that we have had our sights set on for years, so we were elated to be contacted and asked to perform. For the theme Diversity in Movement we decided to focus on one of our core values as a company – representing a wide variety of dance styles. We chose to blend hoop dance and contemporary dance for the piece.
The piece was choreographed by Andie Asacker with assistance from the Dream City Dancers. Each layer of movement responds to a different component of the music – with a goal of the movement reflecting the sounds as an orchestra of bodies. The music for this piece is Drop the Game by Flume ft. Chet Faker. This is Andie’s third piece in a series of hoop/contemporary exploration – the first two pieces in this series pre-date Dream City Dance and are choreographed by Andie to Take Me to Church by Hozier and Elastic Heart by Sia (see links below). Andie enjoys working with popular modern music as an immediate entry point to most audiences.
